There were lights, cameras were prohibited and there was certainly a lot of action at last night’s musical adaptation of Lewis Carrol’s Alice In Wonderland. The Palace theatre was filled with talent, starring the likes of Corrie’s very own Wendi Peters who played the Queen of Hearts, Dave Willetts- a musical theatre favourite and the gifted Kerry Ellis who played Alice.
As it is a children’s classic, we brought our mini reporter Christian, a mature 10 year old who gave us his thoughts about the play:
What was the play about?
It was about a woman with a daughter who seemed depressed in life and she got taken into this wonderland by a rabbit and she met all the characters. By the end, she knew what the purpose of life was which was to always stay strong and positive.
What was your favourite part of the show?
My favourite part of the show was when they were all at the tea table and they all had suggestions of how to kill the queen. I liked the lights as well because they made it all very interesting to watch.
What did you think about the music?
I thought the music was really funky and the singing was really good. It was good because they were singing harmoniously.
Who was your favourite actor/ actress?
The caterpillar because he was really funny and had a good sense of humour. He made me laugh the most.
What was the most impressive part of the play?
The background (backdrop) of the play. It was very colourful and it actually looked like a rabbit hole. It looked cool.”
Looking at the cast in the programme booklet, is there anyone in the play that yourecognised?
Yeah that woman from Coronation Street… I forgot her name but I think her boyfriend is called Kirkie or something like that.
What did you think of her performance?
She was really good. She looked different and I didn’t know she could sing. Her singing was good and I wasn’t expecting it. She looked different.
What did you think of Alice?
She was very good and I think she was the best singer in the show.
Would you watch this show again? Out of 5, what rating would you give the performance?
Definitely. A 4 out of 5 because nothing is perfect.
I agreed. Christian didn’t mention much about the original storyline which was a reflection of yesterday’s musical adaptation. However, I was very impressed with his response regarding his most memorable part of the play- when Alice knew what the purpose of life was which was to always stay strong and positive. A fantastic moral of the play.
